I’m a long retired BA 777 Captain and in common with many people I very much hope that the a/c can be found. They have to find the haystack before even hoping to find the needle.
We all have our theories as to the cause of this mystery but unless the recorders can be retrieved and their data readable then it will always be a mystery. The state of the wreckage will be one clue but I hope against hope that the data can be read. It would be great to get the CVR at the point that the a/c turned off course but it’s been a long time since.
Thanks, Steve, I appreciate that. You know I'm always looking for people with subject-matter expertise and 777s are of particular interest. If I have a question perhaps I could hit you up?

Well you can ask but it’s been 21 years since I flew and I may not be able to help. My memory is not great these days!
A friend of mine retired from flying 777s two years ago and he says he already feels rusty, so I understand where you're coming from.
