Mike, I don't think that there will be another search. Fugro and Ocean Infinity have already searched every place that the plane was likely to be, if it had gone into the southern ocean; the time has come (I'd argue it came a long time ago) to grapple with why the assumptions underlying the search were wrong. As for debris, no, I haven't heard of any new pieces being found.
Hi Jeff, has anyone tried depowering a satcom unit and then seen whether or not it came back on with the flight identifier info. This is such a big clue and it would also give insight into possible spoofing. I would think flight info would need to come from the onboard computer. All other info might be boilerplate. Exactly what info was missing when it repowered ?
Very early on the investigators looked at the data sent from the SDU and concluded that it was consistent with the unit having been turned off and turned again. The meta data included the identifier of the aircraft (as I recall) but not the flight number, which would have needed to be manually updated.
Once I get this out I want to build a fun little microplane that's much safer than current planes and can stay up all day on a solar charge! But first I have to save civilization with a knowledge Renaissance.
As a freelance journalist you should go ape over the plethora of potential world shaking dramatic articles you could write about all of this. Start with:We have a chronic systemic problem with our University system. They have to teach the dogma of the day because they are political.
